Reading transports curious minds to wondrous realms of the imagination. It determines success not only in the classroom, but in life. That's why the PAWS PTO is a proud sponsor of the AR Program in our school by paying for the licensing fees.
What is Accelerated Reader (AR)?
AR is a computer program that helps teachers manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at his own level and reads it at his own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer. (Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.)
How will I know if a book has an AR quiz?
To know which quizzes your school has available, contact your child’s teacher or librarian, . You can also visit the AR BookFinder™ at www.arbookfind.com to conduct a search of all available books with AR quizzes.
What is the One Million Word Reader Club?
The PTO started recognizing the kids who read One Million Words during the school year many years ago.
To recognize the children who reach this goal, we have special presentations for those children and they get a special READ souvenir.
What is the Half Million Word Reader Club?
Those students who reach 500,000 words get recognized too!
How can I help my child become a better reader?
As with anything, performance improves with practice. Encourage your child to read at home.
